MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY

The Legacy and Sacrifice of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Unseen+Histories.jpg

While fighting to end racial discrimination and segregation in the United States through nonviolent tactics, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. faced overwhelming opposition from civil rights opponents, Southern officials and law enforcement, and white supremacist groups.

Dr. King was arrested numerous times for peaceful civil rights activities, and the police forces in the South did not hesitate to use violence against protestors. Additionally, the homes of civil rights activists including King’s were targeted for bombing. These attacks galvanized support for the civil rights movement, as they raised the public consciousness and mobilized support from those who had previously been indifferent to the plight of African Americans.

Dr. King’s dream of freedom and equal citizenship remains far from being realized. Norlift supports the ongoing civil rights movement and those who continue MLK’s struggle against discrimination and racial violence.
